January Anthems 2012

The anthems sung by the Choir in January were:
January 8th 2012 I give you a new commandment by Peter Aston (b. 1938), Professor emeritus of Music and the University of East Anglia.
text from John 13: I give you a new commandment, love one another as I have loved you

January 15th 2012: Teach me, O lord, the way of Thy Statutes by Thomas Attwood (1765-1838), organist at St Paul's Cathedral, a pupil of Mozart and teacher of John Goss (below). words from psalm 119:
Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end.

January 22nd 2012: O Saviour of the World - Sir John Goss (1800-1880), organist of St Paul's Cathedral 1838-1871.
O saviour of the world, who by thy cross and precious blood hast redeemed us, save us and help us, we humbly beseech thee O Lord. Amen
Here it is sung by a Dutch choir.
January 29th 2012: The King Shall Rejoice - Handel (1685-1759)
One of the four famous anthems written by Handel for the coronation of King George II and Queen Caroline in 1727. The words are from psalm 21: The King shall rejoice in Thy strength, O Lord.
